October 2, 2018  49th Annual Hopkins County Stew Contest
Sulphur Springs, Texas
The World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest hosts 150 cooking teams stirring up hearty chicken or beef stew in huge cast iron pots over open wood fires at beautiful Buford Park in Sulphur Springs on the 4th Saturday in October.  Visitors are encouraged to get to the stew grounds early so that they may enjoy seeing the campsites uniquely decorated with wagon trains, simmering pots and glowing campfires.   Just $5 buys a bowl (for all the stew you can eat), along with cheese and crackers.

Cameron Chamber of Commerce and Working for Cameron are hosting a "Steak"tober Fest in historic downtown Cameron, featuring 44 Farms Ribeye Steaks in the Steak Cookoff Association competition.  Working for Cameron is sanctioned by the SCA and the winner will win an invitation to complete in the Ft Worth Championship Cookoff.  In addition, the Chamber will be selling 44 Farms Ribeye Steak Dinner tickets, with baked potato, salad, all the trimmings, homemade bread, homemade dessert and tea/water.

Starting in 2005, and each year since, a group of chuckwagon enthusiasts get together on the banks of the Llano River in Llano, Texas and go back in time to an era when the west was settled.These enthusiasts use traditional cooking methods from that era, wear traditional dress and experience traditional neighborly fun as they compete for prizes in a number of categories.

Celebrating the birthplace of the fajita, Deep South Texas.  The Fajita Cookoff will also have live entertainment throughout the day, a kiddie carnival with dozens of mechanical rides, inflatables, bouncers & slides. Traders Village announces the new Craft Beer & Barbecue Festival. This event is going to feature award winning barbecue cooks cooking up some of the best barbecue brisket and ribs on both days. Guest will be able to buy this barbecue AND have a chance to purchase a variety of Craft Beers. Live music from 12 noon to 4p.m. each day.  During band breaks the cooks will visit with the audience to provide some tips on what helped them win barbecue cook offs all over Texas and the southwest. October 9, 2016  Cochon555’s Heritage BBQ - Austin, Texas
Notable chefs and farmers will spotlight their passion for global BBQ grilling traditions and old world cooking techniques.  Chefs have 7 days to prepare one whole pig and present a “Judge’s Plate” consisting of 6 dishes scored on utilization, global influences, cooking techniques and overall flavor. The winner in each city will be crowned the “BBQ King or Queen” and takes home more than $3,000 in prizes. In addition to sampling the competitor’s dishes, the all-inclusive ticket includes “BBQ Traditions”, a tasting inside the event where 10 notable chefs prepare one dish from their favorite BBQ culture in non-competitive spirit. If you love global flavors and star-studded culinary events, this educational event is like a top chef classroom.

October 21-22, 2016  Kyle Hogwash - Kyle, Texas
Kyle Hogwash is a first-time event bringing family fun to guests from Round Rock to north San Antonio and beyond! The festival, which takes its name from Central Texas' undeniable feral hog population, is a free-admission event with a variety of activities and events for all.
In addition to presentations, products and services aimed at assisting in feral hog and overall wildlife management, festival attendees will enjoy family activities, carnival and amusements games and a Lonestar Barbecue Society-sanctioned cook-off featuring teams from across the region. Another planned element is a cooking stage featuring local notable chefs showcasing the many ways in which feral hog can be prepared. Kyle Hogwash will also be the home of Hammerschlagen, one of the easiest games to play...and the hardest to master! Attendees will also enjoy ongoing live music.

A hot & spicy chili competition.  Panther Club presents the second annual Cowtown Cook Off—a hot and spicy chili competition! Chow on chili, vote for the best and wash it down with ice-cold brew, wine and margaritas. Dancing, casino, auction and more round out the evening. October 26, 2013  4th North TX Firefighters Benefit Chili Cook-off & Motorcycle Run - Whitewright, Texas
A fundraiser to help volunteer fire departments buy what they need to save lives, then return home. All chili cooks, all ages are welcome to compete in the CASI-sanctioned cook-off. 13 awards. For $5 the public can sample the chili's and vote for their favorite. The Red River Motorcycle Run takes riders through tree-lined roads and open grasslands, then it runs parallel to the Red River.
