The McDonald’s Houston Children’s Festival is the largest children’s festival in the United States! Two days of games, circus acts, rides, food, beverages, and entertainment for all ages centered in downtown Houston. Created 28 years ago by Child Advocates as an avenue to create awareness and funding to help the neglected and abused children of Houston. Over 5.4 million dollars have been raised for the organization through the annual two days of children activities.

April 1-30, 2017 The Thread Alliance's Blue Plate Special
During the month of April 2017, participating Houston restaurants will serve a “blue plate special” to support The Thread Alliance’s fundraiser, the annual citywide child abuse prevention awareness campaign encouraging Houstonians to take action against child abuse and towards healing. The Thread Alliance, a non-profit organization founded by Sheila Aron, is dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse. April is National Child Abuse Prevention month. Participating restaurants will offer guests a “blue plate special” and will donate a percentage or flat dollar amount to The Thread Alliance.

The 5-day event begins on Wednesday with "La Dolce Vida", a VIP kick-off with a five-course dinner hosted by world renowned Offical Ambassador of Castello Banfi and Vinqe Regali, Luciano Castello. Bartender Challenge on Thursday, educational seminars, and The Grand Tasting on Friday from 6:00pm-9:30pm at the Sugar Land Marriott Town Square. The Sip & Stroll, will be held again at the grounds of the historical Imperial Sugar Factory from 1:00pm-4:00pm on Saturday - featuring an outdoor beer garden that will have more than 100 different types of beers from 25 different breweries. Closing out the affair, the Bistro Brunch will serve various types of dishes inspired by international cuisines on Sunday from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Sugar Land Town Square.

April 28-30, 2017 Chicken Fried Steak Festival & Balloon Rally
In April 2011, the Texas Legislature declared Lamesa, Texas the "Legendary Home of the Chicken Fried Steak". The City of Lamesa celebrates this declaration each year on the last weekend of April by having a fun-filled weekend and cook-off competition. This year's CFS Festival kicks off on Friday night with a handmade chicken-fried steak dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a roll. Saturday's Highlight is the Chicken Fried Steak Cookoff Competition. Contestants start at 10:00 and must turn in their entry by noon to the Judges table. Festival attendees also get to pick their favorite Chicken Fried Steak. All winners will announced at 3:00pm. Saturday night the Hot Air Balloons will put on balloon glow and fire concert for spectators in the park. Vendors and contestants can register online
