The 37th Annual International Eelpout Festival, held at Chase on the Lake on Leech Lake, is a tradition centered on catching one of the ugliest of bottom-dwelling fish, the Eelpout! Cochon555, the signature culinary competition featuring five chefs cooking five heritage breed pigs in a friendly competition for a cause. The tour is dedicated to helping Piggy Bank create the first open-source agriculture platform for heritage species while raising global awareness for socially responsible farming. The event unites consumers with local farmers, renowned chefs, prominent winemakers, restaurateurs, craft brewers and distillers in each city for a nose-to-tail culinary showdown celebrating family farms. At each event, 500 guests including notable judges will vote for the best bite amongst 2,000 pounds of awesomeness and the winning chef will be announced the “Princess or Prince of Porc”. On June 18th, the ten regional winners of Cochon555 fly to Aspen/Snowmass to compete at Grand Cochon, a spotlight of 10 chefs, 10 pigs and the best 30 bites from tour. The winner of the grand finale walks away with the crown and title of “2016 King or Queen of Porc”.

February 23, 2013 American Bakery Expo Challenge

The American Bakery Expo Challenge at the 2013 Upper Midwest Bakery Convention. The winner of our contest will represent the UMBA in Las Vegas at the IBIE convention on October 6-9, 2013 and compete against 11 other contestants from across the USA for a share of $14,000 in prize money. Travel expenses and hotel accommodations will be provided by RBA and UMBA for the competition in Las Vegas. Decorators will compete in wedding cake, fondant, sculpted, floral designs and custom design categories over an 8 hour period on February 23. To be eligible to compete the decorator must have two years of professional cake decorating experience, submit a portfolio of their work and be employed by a bakery that is a UMBA member. Registration materials must be returned by January 25, 2013.
