August 15, 2019  11th International Cold Climate Wine Competition
Chaska, Minnesota
A Unique Competition.  While there are dozens of wine competitions around the United States, there is no other competition devoted to the promotion of quality wines made primarily from cold-hardy grape cultivars.  The ICCWC sees to honor and promote wines of exceptional quality produced from these cultivars grown in non-traditional viticultural areas.  The judges represent wine sensory experts from across the country and from various segments of the wine industry.

August 18, 2019  Japanese Obon Festival - St. Paul, Minnesota
Bonsai, martial arts, Ikebana, singing, dancing, drumming, delicious food and other aspects of Japanese culture will take center stage at the 21st annual Como Park Obon Festival (FKA Japanese Lantern Lighting Festival), a family-friendly event, reminiscent of Japan’s annual Obon holiday, from 3:00pm-9:00pm on the grounds of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in Como Park. Admission is $5.00 per adult (13+), $3.00 per child (ages 3-12) and Seniors (ages 65+), free for children under 3. Free shuttle bus service will be available until 10:30pm from a staffed off-site parking lot at the District Service Center located at 1930 Como Ave. Sorry, no pets will be allowed on festival grounds.

August 22-September 2, 2019 - Minnesota State Fair
Falcon Heights, Minnesota
Showcasing the state's finest agriculture, art, and industry, "The Great Minnesota Get-Together" is the largest state fair in the country in terms of daily attendance. Visitors enjoy many different types of food, with over 50 kinds served on a stick: espresso on-a-stick, hotdish on-a-stick, walleye on-a-stick and deep fried pickles on-a-stick to name a few. During a typical year, 20,000 gallons of milk are served at the all-you-can-drink concession. Don't miss the Princess Kay of the Milky Way butter sculpture.  Attendance: 1.7 million.

St. Paul, Minnesota
The Minnesota Craft Brewers Guild is proud to present the “Brewed in Minnesota” exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair. The exhibit will explore craft beer, agriculture, and the people who bring it all together.  Featuring:  • 450+ beers from 70+ Minnesota breweries and brewpubs, and non-alcoholic and craft soda options.  • NEW: Live brewing demos.  • Presentations by MN craft brewers and industry leaders.

August 23-24, 2019 - Potato Days Festival - Barnesville, Minnesota
Two days of zany potato activities, taste tempting potato specialties and small town hospitality. Over 17,000 tater lovers descend each year from across the country to this town of 2,200. Often selected as one of the best summer festivals in the nation. Mashed potato wrestling, Miss Tator Tot Pageant; picking, peeling, carving, cooking and sacking potatoes. Norwegian lefse, potato pancakes, french fries, potato sausage, potato soup, German potato dumplings.  Attendance: 17,000.

August 23-24, 2019 - 12th Annual Big Island Bar-B-Que Steak Cookoff
Albert Lea, Minnesota
Entertainment.  A KCBS sanctioned State Championship. We draw some of the top teams in the United States that are a part of Kansas City Barbeque Society to compete annually in Albert Lea, Minnesota. The winner of the Big Island Bar-B-Que receives a cash payout as well as an invitation to the American Royal/KC Masterpiece Invitational in Kansas City MO. Overall BBQ and chili winners qualify for the World Food Championships in Kissimmee, Florida.

August 23-25, 2019  Askov Rutabaga Festival and Fair
Askov, Minnesota
Askov is a town of Danish decent with street signs in Danish and English. Askov is also the Rutabaga Capital of the World. The Rutabaga Festival and Fair features Aebleskiver and Rutabaga Sausage, as well as a Rutabaga Cupcake Walk, hike to Rutabaga Falls, live music, fair food, a parade, children's games, the coronation of Miss Askov and much more! August 25, 2019  Minnesota Cooks Day at Minnesota State Fair
St. Paul, Minnesota
Minnesota Cooks is all about celebrating respected Minnesota farmers and premier Minnesota chefs and cooks who serve locally-produced foods from these farmers in their restaurants. During our one-day event, the chefs and cooks entertain audiences with their cooking demonstrations while the farmers and other local food heavyweights weigh-in on Minnesota's vibrant food scene.

August 30-31, 2019  World Ploughing Championship
Lake of the Woods, Minnesota
The world contest will be held on the Arnesen family farmland two miles south of Baudette.  This prestigious international competition brings together the world’s best ploughers from over 30 countries. These competitors are the best of the best with each having to win their respective countries contest to qualify for this worldwide contest.  Lake of the Woods County has a rich tradition of farming with more than 40,000 acres of farmland. The county is known for a variety of unique crops including rye grass, sun flowers, canola, soybeans and other grains and oilseeds.  The USA ploughing contest will follow the day after on September 1, 2019.

August 22, 2015  Real Horse Power - Grand Rapids, Minnesota
The draft horse powered much of America well into the 20th century. Logging and lumbering, one of the nation's largest and most important industries, relied heavily on powerful Percheron draft horses to move the huge white pine logs from the forest to landings on the river. This program features horses doing traditional tasks such as skidding, cross hauling and jammer loading.
