September 8, 2018  Pickwick Mill Day - Pickwick, Minnesota
An annual celebration of the history of Pickwick and the 120-year-old flour mill which is on the state historic register.  Food served all day, live music, demonstrations of spinning, blacksmithing, pottery making, and more. Silent auction, homemade pies, log rolling, fire dept water fights, etc.

18th Annual Grape Stomp Festival
Stillwater, Minnesota
Saint Croix Vineyards.  It’s free and fun for the whole family! Take a turn stomping grapes the old-fashioned way or let your kids give it a try. Prizes will be awarded to those with the best grape-stomping style (as determined by audience applause).  Bring a picnic, take a tour of the vineyard and winery, listen to live music, and, of course, enjoy our award-winning wines!  Grape stomping competitions for both kids and adults will be held at approximately 1:00, 3:00, and 5:00 each day. A drawing will be held to determine who will compete in the competitions…please enter your name in the drawing when you arrive. Don’t worry if you are not chosen to compete, everyone will get a chance to stomp grapes between competitions.

The Applefest weekend includes activities such as a Kiddie Parade, Carnival, Apple Pie Stand, President's Reception and Queen Coronation, Pancake Breakfast, King Apple Parade, Craft Show, entertainment in the King Apple (Beer) Tent and the Johnny Appleseed (Family) Tent. Applefest is always held on the 3rd full weekend in September.

This is the 21st year for our festival and we are excited to announce that we have decided to move the event to Kennedy School.  We moved it last year at the last minute due to bad weather and we received such favorable comments that we decided to move it permanently.  No wind!  No bees! No threat of rain!  We will have a large tent in the parking lot with picnic tables and the food vendors will be around the tent.

A celebration of wild rice, the Minnesota fall season and Native American culture!  Wild rice sausages, wild rice soup, fry bread, and more. Traditional wild rice harvesting demonstrations.  Native American dance group and story-telling. Children’s games and activities.  Hands-on apple cider pressing. Silent auction, to raise funds to support the Nature Center. And much more!  As usual, there is no admission charge.

September 16, 2018 - Twin Cities Veg Fest - St. Paul, Minnesota
Twin Cities Veg Fest will take place at Como Park in St. Paul from 11am to 5pm.  Parking is limited at the venue. We will be providing off-site parking and shuttle service from the Rosedale Shopping Center in Roseville. Please see our location page for details.  Twin Cities Veg Fest is for anyone and everyone – from omnivores to vegetarians and vegans. The festival features a wide variety of exhibitors, speakers, and cooking demos. Enjoy free food samples, delicious vegan cuisine, fun cooking demos, and insightful presentations. This year for the first time ever we’ll host the festival outdoors, making it possible for even more people to attend.  This year we’re excited to work towards making this a zero waste event with the help of our sponsor Eureka Recycling!  Twin Cities Veg Fest is a project of Compassionate Action for Animals.  Attendance: 7,000.

September 24, 2018  Chefs for Change - Minneapolis, Minnesota
People Serving People is pleased to announce Chefs for Change, a unique dining event that provides the opportunity for local foodies and chefs to give back to their community.  Attendees are invited to People Serving People’s shelter dining hall to enjoy a chef’s table experience provided by Republic. Republic is an award winning, locally-owned and independent craft beer bar whose scratch kitchen specializes in top-notch contemporary gastropub fare. Each course will be paired with a beer, making this the first ever Chefs for Change Beer Dinner. Chef JD Fratzke and Republic have donated their time, as well as the food and beer pairings for each meal, meaning 100% of the Chefs for Change dinner proceeds go towards helping children and families at People Serving People.  Dinner guests are invited to arrive at 6:30 pm for a tour of People Serving People’s facility. Located in Minneapolis, People Serving People is the largest and most comprehensive, family-focused homeless shelter in Minnesota. People Serving People’s 99 emergency housing units for children and families experiencing homelessness provided shelter to 3,093 individuals from 1,104 families in 2017.

September 3, 2017 - Porktoberfest Block Party
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Day Block Brewing will be hosting PorktoberFest, an end-of-summer block party at their property located off Washington Avenue and 11th Avenue in the Downtown Minneapolis Mill District. The all-day event will emphasize local food-namely pork selections-as well as several vegetarian options. In addition, there will be plenty of craft beer and a full schedule of live music, which will begin at 2:00pm. This event will be held in the shared Day Block Brewing/Grumpy’s Bar lot located on the South side of the Day Block Building. Limited free parking will also be available.  Food selections include Pork Beer Brats & Sauerkraut, Pork Shank “Wings”, Korean Pork Belly Sliders, Bacon Steak “BLT” Sandwiches & Carolina BBQ Pork Chops on a Stick. For vegetarians, we'll also have Portabella Cap Sandwiches, Giant Pretzels & Beer Cheese, Giant Pickle on a Stick, Corn on the Cob w/ Compound Butter &Seasonal Grilled Vegetable Hash.

September 25, 2015  Taste of the Lakes - Excelsior, Minnesota
BayView Event Center.  This year’s event will benefit two charities to touch the lives of even more community members: Metro Friendship Foundation for Autism and Meals on Wheels South Shore.  The event is well-known for featuring the best food the area has to offer with samples from a variety of 14 local restaurants. A mixologist from Prairie Organic Spirits will be serving cocktail samples and beer samples will be served by Excelsior Brewing Company. The event will also include a live and silent auction and live entertainment.

September 20, 2014 - Getting to Know Weird Vegetables from the Farmers Market - MN Landscape Arboretum, Chaska, Minnesota
Kris James, Culinary Herbalist and Instructor, accomplished chef, cookbook author  Fall harvest produce is flavor and nutrient-rich and some are strangers to us! Are you curious about some of the unfamiliar produce you see beautifully displayed at the market but haven't a clue what they are or what to do with them? These produce underdogs are undiscovered gems. In class we'll ask, "What the heck is this?" and actually get answers! You'll learn how to prepare and cook with them. When you taste these in Kris's recipes you'll want to go back for more. Could include unusual and uncommon fellows such as Chayote Squash, (also known as Buddha's Hand or a Mirliton), Burdock root, turmeric root, black garlic, and more.
