September 2-5, 2011  Pinehurst Food and Wine Festival - Pinehurst, North Carolina
The 28th annual celebration of food and wine, featuring wine competitions, daily wine seminars, culinary/cooking demonstrations from guest chefs, and gala food and wine dining events each night.

September 2-5, 2011  North Carolina Apple Festival - Hendersonville, North Carolina
The North Carolina mountains are known for their apple orchards. In celebration of King Apple, music, a parade, and arts and crafts fill city streets. Many of the growers also feature items such as fried apple pies, apple cakes, apple butter and apple cider.

September 8-11, 2011  Ayden Collard Festival - Ayden, North Carolina
Family festival with music, parade, golf, horseshoe & tennis tournaments, art show, collard cooking and eating contests.

September 9-10, 2011  9th Annual Blues, Brews & BBQ - Charlotte, North Carolina
Approximately 80 teams compete for over $20,000 in prizes and supreme bragging rights. Teams decorate their areas with elaborate decoration, pig trophies added to their booths, and as one can imagine, clever and creative team names. While the BBQ competition is the main theme there is also a pigtastic festival taking place Friday & Saturday. Blues music, an array of beer samples, and some of the best barbecue you will find anywhere. The best of southern cuisine and southern music.

Sept 10, 2011  5th Annual North Carolina Hot Sauce Contest - Oxford, North Carolina
Producers from all across the state come together for a fun-filled day, showcasing NC Hot Sauces, NC Microbreweries, NC Wines, NC Barbeque Sauces, NC Fiery Foods, Antiques, Granville Gardeners Plant Sale,  Granville County Museum Treasure Sale and much, much more!
 

 

Sept 10-11, 2011  70th Annual North Carolina Gourd Festival - Raleigh, North Carolina
Gourds from around the world and from our own backyards. Displays of historic and exotic gourds. Meet crafters and growers who can teach you how to turn a moldy gourd straight from the garden into an object of lasting beauty. On sale will be gourds, gourd craft, supplies and seeds.

September 10-17, 2011  NC Turkey Festival - Raeford, North Carolina
Highlights include live music and performers, dog show, auto & motorcycle shows, turkey cooking contest, kids' activities, parade, turkey dinner, storytelling, card tournament, bingo and the Turkey Throw Down.

September 16-18, 2011  15th Annual Spoonbread Festival - Berea, North Carolina
Three fun-filled days with craft vendors, Balloon Glow, live entertainment, fireworks display, car show, scenic motorcycle rally, carnival rides and of course, delicious hot spoonbread!

September 17, 2011  Brewgrass Festival - Asheville, North Carolina
Over 40 American breweries and more than 120 different beers. Plus a great lineup of national and regional bluegrass musicians.

September 17, 2011  BugFest 2011 - Raleigh, North Carolina
Learn about arthropods, which make up three-quarters of all animals on Earth, during fascinating presentations. Taste delectable dishes featuring creepy crawlers as a major ingredient at Café Insecta.

September 17, 2011  9th Annual Taste Carolina Wine Festival - Colfax, North Carolina
Nothing could be finer than a late summer day filled with wine tasting, art, crafts and music all day.

September 24, 2011  15th Annual Yadkin Valley Pumpkin Festival - Elkin, North Carolina
Includes Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off with pumpkins from growers located all over the East Coast. Some will weigh-in at an excess of 1,000 lbs with hopes of placing in the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth top ten. Main Street will be lined with vendors, plus a variety of live entertainment and the ever-popular pie-eating contest. Attendance: 15,000.

September 24, 2011  NC Muscadine Harvest Festival - Kenansville, North Carolina
Features wines from over 20 wineries and great music, wine making & cooking contests, farm implement exhibits, educational seminars, food and craft vendors.

September 24, 2011  TerraVITA Food & Wine Event - Chapel Hill, North Carolina
More than 100 of the finest biodynamic and organically-grown wines in the world, 6 microbreweries and select organic coffee and tea producers with the very best sustainable foods in the Southeast!   More than 2 dozen chefs from North Carolina’s top restaurants will prepare tastings.  Live bluegrass music and silent auction.  Auction proceeds will go to the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association and TABLE, a non-profit dedicated to providing nutritious food for children at risk for hunger.
 

 


Sept 30-Oct 2, 2011  25th Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival - Morehead City, NC
The weekend will include all of the following: seafood sampling, cooking demonstration by highly renowned chefs, seafood vendors, boat show, ship tours, entertainment on four stages, playground for kids, over 150 arts & crafts vendors, sporting events, rides, fireworks and Blessing of the Fleet.

September 18, 2010  FungiFest - Asheville, North Carolina
Held at the North Carolina Arboretum, Fungifest is a day of celebration offered by the Asheville Mushroom Club. The event highlights basic identification techniques and medicinal uses, as well as growing and cooking programs. There’s even a didactic in the use of mushrooms for artistic purposes.
