California State Fair
Sacramento, California
The 17-day fair is a robust celebration of the State of California, its industries, agriculture and diversity of its people.  Among the highlights are  concerts, wine garden, midway rides, demonstration farm (with most crops grown in the state), livestock pavilion, fine arts competition, harness racing, and nightly fireworks. Tastes of the fair include exotic foods from around the world, plenty of healthy & nutritious options, as well as many deep-fried foods: zucchini, Twinkies, funnel cake, chicken, avacado, cheesecake, and more.  Attendance: 940,000.
 

July 26-28, 2019
41st Annual Gilroy Garlic Festival
Gilroy, California
10 tons of beef … 4 tons of pasta … 4 tons of calamari … 2 tons of scampi …plus 2 tons of fresh Christopher Ranch garlic & $10 million raised for local charity. The annual ‘Ultimate Summer Food Fair’; three days of incredible food, beverages, arts & crafts, live entertainment. Great Garlic Cook-Off with a $5,000 1st Prize.  Champions for Charity: 4 teams of first responders (including firefighters, police officers, and EMTs) will compete in 3 elimination rounds including Appetizer, Entrée, and Dessert. A panel of judges will evaluate taste, creativity, appearance and use of garlic to determine who will be moving on to the next round. The winning team will be awarded $3,000 to donate to a charity of their choice!  Garlic Showdown: 4 professional chefs face off in an “Iron Chef” style competition for a $3,000 cash prize and the ultimate bragging rights.
