25th Calaveras Grape Stomp
Murphys, California
25 pounds of wine grapes freshly picked, a half wine barrel fitted with a spout, a partner and you.  More than 120 teams throughout the state and beyond compete each year to vie for the prestigious 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awards. Stomp competitions take place every half hour. The team, comprised of one stomper and one mucker (the juice collector), have three minutes to extract as much juice from 25 pounds of wine grapes as possible. And of course… lots of Award Winning Calaveras Wine and delicious foods!  Attendance: 10,000+.

October 8, 2018  45th Annual Safeway World Championship Pumpkin Weigh-Off - Half Moon Bay, California
The World’s Greatest Gourd Growers and their astounding, mind-boggling, Volkswagen-sized orange orbs hope to squash the world record at the “Super Bowl of Weigh-Offs”—in the World Pumpkin Capital of Half Moon Bay, California. This year, event organizers are offering a special $30,000 mega-prize for the world record at Half Moon Bay. To receive the $30,000 mega-prize, the grower must break and hold the world record at the conclusion of the Half Moon Bay weigh-off. If two or more growers happen to break the world record at Half Moon Bay, the prize money would go to the grower of the heaviest pumpkin. The current world record is 2,624 pounds.

It's a fisherman's dream come true. The oldest Bass Derby on the West Coast will once again be highlighted at the Rio Vista Bass Festival. This year, anglers are able to choose between two fishing contests on the same ticket. Target lengths will be drawn at the start of the Derby early Friday morning for both Striped Bass and Sturgeon.  Kids Derby: This is a family event and we welcome young anglers, up to but not including 16 years of age.  Kids will be fishing for catfish and striped bass.  The Beer Garden stage will light up with sounds from all genres including Rock & Roll, R&B, Soul, Pop, and Country Strong . On the 3rd Saturday in October each year Coleman National Fish Hatchery celebrates the annual Return of the Salmon Festival.  This festival has been celebrated at the hatchery since 1991 in an effort to increase outreach and visitor use; during this one day festival thousands of people visit the hatchery. This festival is free and has many booths from Federal, State and private exhibitors that provide a wide array of information related to natural resources.

Tasting events like these have become really popular in LA but often come with huge crowds and long lines.
