Statewide, California
January’s California Restaurant Month puts the state’s amazing bounty on rich display. It makes feasting even more accessible than usual, with a legion of participating restaurants in cities and regions across the state offering deals and special menus at various times during the month.  And this year, more regions and cities are participating than ever. From San Diego to Sonoma, Tahoe to Temecula, the month of January overflows with sunny deliciousness. Here’s how it works: Participating cities and regions have their own restaurant week—lasting anywhere from a week to 10 days—during the month of January. During each weeklong celebration various restaurants offer special deals, such as affordable prix fixe menus for lunch and/or dinner, or sizably discounted meals.

The Olympics of Cheese are here: the Cheesemonger Invitational! More than 30 of the country's top cheesemongers will come together for one action-packed weekend to showcase the very best in the field.  Organizers of the invitational have selected these mongers from specialty shops from coast to coast, traveling from Michigan, Florida, Tennessee, New York, Vermont, Washington, D.C. and other locales, along with competitors from all over California and the Bay Area.  The invitational was founded by cheese expert and importer Adam Moskowitz in NYC in 2010, and this will mark the fifth year that San Francisco plays host to the weekend, held in conjunction with the Winter Fancy Food Show; it will return once again to NYC in June 2018.

Placerville, California
Come out and be the first to taste El Dorado’s finest wines straight from the barrel! You will be treated to a special preview of extraordinary vintages before they are blended or bottled. Each vineyard will be offering wine tastings, light hors d'oeuvres, and the opportunity to learn more about wine and wine making.
