Experience Mardi-Gras and Cajun cuisine in Manitou! Enjoy samples of gumbo from professional chefs and amateur cooks to help determine who has the best gumbo! Gumbo is a Cajun soup that contains roux and dried sassafras. It also usually contains a variety of meats such as chicken, seafood, or sausage. Okra and other ingredients along with seasonings and sometimes even rice can be found in gumbo as well. Join us at Soda Springs Park from 10:45am till 1:00pm for an afternoon of gumbo and Mardi-Gras! Samples of gumbo will be available for $.75. The amateur and professional divisions will compete for their own 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies as well as for cash prizes. There will also be an award for Best Showmanship and People’s Choice. Stick around after the Gumbo Cook-Off when Manitou Avenue will fill up with spectators to watch the Mardi-Gras Parade at 1:00pm.
