November 4-5, 2016 Oyster Cook-Off & Craft Beer Weekend
Gulf Shores, Alabama
The Hangout Oyster Cook-Off & Craft Beer Weekend showcases the talents and tastes of the best chefs from the Southeast for a decadent afternoon of oysters and spirits on the beach in beautiful Gulf Shores, AL. Sample inspired oyster dishes from over 60 restaurants who will be serving Rockefeller, Gulf Coast Cajun and Raw Oysters. Sharpen your culinary skills with fun & informative cooking demos throughout the day Saturday. Over 60 craft beers will be on available from breweries such as Oskar Blues, Good People, Straight To Ale, Abita, Lagunitas, Fairhope Brewing, and Goose Island. Plus, craft cocktails, Champagne, and Bloody Marys will be featured throughout the day to help wash the oysters down.

Fourth annual event as the Gulf Coast tradition returns to Dauphin Island, Alabama. This year’s focus – Sustaining Heritage – will allow guests to see and taste firsthand the creative combination of culinary innovation and Gulf Coast customs. Presented by The South Mobile County Tourism Authority, Seafood, Science & Celebrity will celebrate on Saturday with its traditionally sold-out annual “Sustaining Heritage” Gala at the Estuarium, and on Sunday with the inaugural Sunday Supper Gulf Coast at Historic Fort Gaines, a Friends of James Beard Benefit Dinner featuring a collection of the South’s most interesting culinary icons.

Monroe County Heritage Museum will host the 5th Annual Fruitcake Festival, inspired by Truman Capote’s heart-warming Christmas Stories. Locally made fruitcakes, in specially designed tins, will be for sale all day Friday. A special theatrical performance brings Capote's stories to life at 7:00 pm Thursday and Friday in the world-famous courtroom of the Old Courthouse Museum.
