September 24, 2016 20th Annual Plains Peanut Festival
The annual Plains Peanut Festival is centered around one of the Sumter County community's claims to fame, its peanut production, and features the community's most famous residents in active roles. The festival kicks off with a 1-mile fun run and a 5-K road race. People line the sidewalks of Plains each year to watch the unique entries in the parade downtown. Visitors enjoy the all-day event and educational exhibits are on display to accent the importance of agriculture in this region.
September 24, 2016 Cave Spring Pig Out B-B-Q Cook Off
Cave Spring, Georgia
The Cave Spring Pig-Out also features an Arts and Crafts Festival in addition to an extraordinary BBQ competition. Free Kids Activities - Arts And Crafts - Mule-Driven Wagon Rides - Specialty Food Vendors. The competition meat will be judged by a professional panel on Saturday morning. Also on Saturday, tasting and voting for the Peoples Choice Award will be open to anyone who has purchased a "tasting ticket." We usually run out of tasting barbecue, so "first come, first served." Trophies and cash prizes for 1st Place, 2nd Place, and 3rd Place in the professionally judged categories will be awarded. The top three teams acquiring the most votes in the Peoples Choice category, will receive trophies. During the day on Saturday, teams will also be selling their barbecue to the public.

Tables may be reserved for an additional $40.00 for a table of 8, $50.00 for a table of 10. Kids under age 10 admitted FREE.

September 21, 2013 The BrewMasters Open - Alpharetta, Georgia
With deep regret the 2013 competition scheduled for Sept. 21, 2013 has had to be cancelled. The new Georgia House Bill 99 effective July 1, 2013 mandates that all homebrew events must have a permit from the municipality where they will be conducted. The Brewmasters worked with the City of Alpharetta to obtain the permit but the City feels that the new law, as written by the State, is too vague and they cannot act upon our request in the timeframe required. Alternate options were explored including moving the competition to the City of Dunwoody but those did not work out.
