Review

I like walking into a classy place. I can’t help it I’m a recovering type A personality with a history of being an anal retentive perfectionist. I came to Key West to get over that, but I will always embrace and respect the hard work it takes to make a bar or restaurant all it can be from the standpoint of maximizing its potential.

White Tarpon is on its face a wine bar, bar and liquor store, but as it is owned by the same people who operate Damn Good Food (see the Damn Good Food Review) located right next door you are able to order from their menu. I love the clean look of the place with all the wine and liquor bottles juxtaposed in all different directions throughout the space, but done so in a way that is easy to understand and to maneuver. Obviously a lot of effort has gone into operating and maintaining the place.

I wish I could get to this wonderful spot more often, but I work and live on the other side of Key West, so I can’t be a frequent flyer here. The bar tender/server I get most often is Nicole and she always seems to know just what I want. I tell her what kind of wine I typically drink and she shows me a new one that is complimentary and a bit finer. It’s cool outside and she instinctively puts a hot cocoa and Malibu in front of me. They even know what food is best to order from next door to go with the drink you have in front of you. Once I had the fish with my wine and another time baked Brie. It’s like an adventure each time I walk in.

I know you will walk in to this lovely establishment and think it pretentious on it’s face, but it is just the opposite. Enjoy the clean polished space, the wide selection of wines and liquor, the excellent service and relax at the bar. The conversation is good, the food is “Damn Good” and the overall experience will be so pleasant you’ll want to come back very soon. This is how I like Key West to be!
