Throughout 2013, the FoodChamp Challenge recipe contests will challenge recipe inventors to flex their culinary muscles and create exciting recipes that knock our oven mitts off! May’s FoodChamp Challenge will appeal to everyone’s collective sweet tooth. If it’s a dessert then it’s fair game to submit. The FOUR best recipes overall and the best recipe by a food blogger will win automatic qualification and free entry to compete in the World Dessert Championship at the 2013 World Food Championships. FoodChamp Challenge recipes will be judged by our all-star panel of judges which includes: 2012 World Chef Champion Travis Brust, notable TV food personality "Dr. BBQ" Ray Lampe, and TV host, blogger and home cook, Rebecca Regnier. Prize: Qualification to compete in the World Dessert Championship at the World Food Championships in Las Vegas, Nov. 7-10. - Get Wild with Wild Rice – Deadline: June 14, 2013
The Minnesota Cultivated Wild Rice Council seeks your inspiration in developing innovative and delectable wild rice recipes for its 2nd annual recipe contest. Recipes must be original creations of the submitter and include at least 1/4 cup of cooked wild rice per serving and at least two sponsor products. Open to any skill level and minors can participate with guardian consent. You may submit up to one recipe in each category (appetizer, soup, salad, entrιe, side, dessert). Prizes: Up to 16 finalists will be selected by the Council’s cooking staff. Contest finalists will be credited in the 2013-2014 brochure. They will receive 3 pounds of wild rice and a choice of two admission tickets to the Fair, one wild rice t-shirt/cap, or a signed copy of the "Saga of the Grain." The $500 grand prize will be awarded from the finalists by a panel of food celebrities led by Stephanie March. All finalists are also eligible for the $250 People’s Choice prize.

- American Emu Association EGGS'travaganza Egg Art Contest - July 12, 2013
As a way of promoting emu egg shell art, the American Emu Association (AEA) will be hosting the '2013 EGGS'travaganza Egg Art Contest' All types of emu egg artwork are welcome to enter. These large, dark green eggs with layers of blue, gray, turquoise and white, lend themselves to the creation of beautiful art work. The eggs are first emptied, washed and sanitized. When dried, the egg shells can be painted, hung like Christmas ornaments, made into jewelry boxes, music boxes or luxuriously decorated like the famous Faberge eggs. The strength and thickness of an emu egg shell makes it a durable canvas for all types of painting from egg critters to beautiful landscapes. Both acrylic and oil paints can be used successfully to create amazing art. Many artists carve emu eggs because of the different color layers. The dark green outer covering varies from hunter green to almost black, the middle color is a teal green to blue and the inside is a bright white. The teal and blue are actually as many as seven subtle layers of color, each about the thickness of a sheet of paper. These different layers of color can be utilized to add texture and depth to artwork. The texture, contrast and natural colors of the shell make even a simple design dramatic. Winners will be chosen and all entries will be displayed in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, on Friday, July 12th, during the 2013 National AEA Convention. PRIZES: Artists will compete for cash prizes that will be awarded for the top 3 entries with the highest bids. A Silent Auction with live bidders and online bidding will be used to determine the winners. The 2013 contest entries will be showcased on the contest website through at least June 1st of the following year, giving excellent exposure and promotion for the artists.

Bob’s Red Mill Launches Search for Best Porridge Maker in the United States. Winner of company’s 3rd Annual Spar for the Spurtle Competition will compete at the World Championship in Scotland.
