October 13-14, 2023 - 77th Annual Turkey Trot - Yellville, Arkansas
Arkansas' oldest annual festival. Every year since 1946 the city of Yellville has celebrated what is known as Turkey Trot. The event was conceived as a way to call attention to the region's abundant wild turkeys. Turkey Trot is one of the most exciting times of the year around here. It has become a time for homecomings, reunions, and traditions for many tourists, classmates, friends and family members.  Mid-Marion County Rotary is excited to sponsor the longest continuous festival in Arkansas for the second year.  Fifty years ago it was an accepted procedure to re-populate wild turkeys in the Ozarks by tossing them from airplanes.  The Rotary Club agrees that this tradition is no longer viable.  Controversy surrounding the cruelty of dropping turkeys from planes or buildings that have plagued previous sponsorship efforts, have conditioned Rotary’s sponsorship.  In the event turkeys are dropped, Rotary will have to withdraw sponsorship of the Turkey Trot Festival in the future.  However, we will continue future support to the community
