The Farmer And The Chef South

The premise of the event is simple, pair local farmers with local chefs.  While the event is a fundraiser for the March of Dimes, we are also helping to create sustainable relationships between local farmers and chefs, while reinforcing the movement of eating healthy which is something the March of Dimes believes in and promotes to women who are considering pregnancy.

September 15, 2016 - The Farmer And The Chef
Wilmington, Delaware
It's the annual homegrown cook-off where you get to be the judge!  Local farmers and area chefs whip up the tastiest competition of the year.  The premise of the event is simple, pair local farmers with local chefs.  While the event is a fundraiser for the March of Dimes, we are also helping to create sustainable relationships between local farmers and chefs, while reinforcing the movement of eating healthy.  Attendees will also be able to cast their vote for their favorite dish.  Included in the evenings festivities are silent and basket auctions.

September 17, 2016  DSBC Fun Fest & Championship Scrapple Cook-off
Newark, Delaware
Visit our many vendors and support local small businesses. You may find something you want to buy!  Scrapple Cook-off: Try unique Scrapple recipes and vote for your favorite. Also enjoy items featuring Scrapple from the food trucks including the Kirby & Holloway food trailer.  Family Activities: Face painting, inflatable obstacle course, New Castle County Police K9 dogs, and more!

'Jurassic Beach' - A wine and beer tasting festival with fine wines, specialty beers, live music, hors d'oeuvres, and a silent auction to benefit the Delaware Museum of Natural History.

October 8, 2016  Cheesetoberfest - Dover, Delaware
Cheestoberfest is an all-out, no holds barred, grilled cheese competition, being held at Fordham & Dominion Brewing, that features 25 Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Philadelphia restaurants. In keeping with the cheesiness of the event, an oompah band will provide the entertainment. Brewery staff and volunteers will be pouring award winning Octoberfest, along with Spiced Harvest Ale, Oak Barrel Stout, Rams Head IPA, Copperhead Ale, and Helles Lager.?  General admission tickets are $30 and include two beers, food samples, and a commemorative stein.?

October 14-15, 2016 - 25th Annual Bridgeville Apple-Scrapple Festival
Bridgeville, Delaware
Showcases the area's agriculture industry and celebrates Apples and Sussex County's favorite breakfast meat, Scrapple, a mainstay of the Bridgeville economy. Little Miss & Miss Apple Scrapple, ladies' skillet toss, 5K run, craft show, food, food, and more food!  Attendance: 25,000.

October 15, 2016  Delaware Homebrew Championship
Dover, Delaware
Hop to it and get your beer recipes in order!  Entries are now being accepted for the 3rd Annual Delaware Homebrew Championship to be judged during the Delaware Wine and Beer Festival.  The event is an American Homebrewers Association sanctioned competition.   See website for complete details.

October 15, 2016  Delaware Wine & Beer Festival - Dover, Delaware
Tickets are now on sale for the 7th Annual Delaware Wine and Beer Festival, set at the beautiful 19th century farm village at the Delaware Agricultural Museum and Village in Dover, Delaware.  The event theme celebrates all things Delaware: “Drink Local, Eat Local and Buy Local.”  The festival will feature the full contingency of Delaware wineries, breweries, distilleries, artisans and eateries who will participate in the event.  This event is Delaware’s official, original wine and beer festival, and the only one in the state to earn the prestigious “Top 100 USA Event” designation from the American Bus Association.  In addition to wine, beer and spirits sampling, the event will include the Delaware Artisan Faire with 50 local artisans and artists just in time for tax-free holiday shopping; live music; keg tossing competition; and new this year, a Sunday brunch sponsored by the Delaware Wineries Association.  An expanded merchandise store and wine store will be available offering discounted bottles and cases of locally-made wines for take-home purposes.

October 18-25, 2015  Kent County Restaurant Week - Dover, Delaware
The Kent County Restaurant Week will be co-branded and launched as part of the Delaware Wine and Beer Festival, with the Delaware Wineries Association’s gourmet brunch on Sunday, October 12, featuring local craft wines and spirits paired with food presented by local restaurants. Restaurant Week will highlight the unique dining experiences in Kent County featuring fresh seafood, quality meats and local farm to fork produce and fruits. Kent County’s wineries, breweries and distillery are partnering with local restaurants to pair craft beer, wine and spirits with local dishes to further the “Eat Local” mantra. Restaurant week will encourage local residents, Delawareans and visitors to visit any of the 100+ independent eateries in Kent County.

Wing eating contest, live football games, football betting, live music from local bands, Hog roast, games and face painting for the kids! Proceeds benefit children with mental health issues

September 15-16, 2014  Mid-Atlantic Green Hospitality Conference
Dover, Delaware
Dover Downs and the Dover Downs Conference Working Group (DDWG) will host the Mid-Atlantic Green Hospitality Conference, a first-of-its-kind opportunity to unite food service and lodging facilities, tourism agencies, “eco” product suppliers and consultants around the common cause of maintaining and promoting environmentally friendly lodging and food services practices.

September 28, 2014  11th Annual Taste of Newark - Newark, Delaware
At the Taste of Newark event, guests have the opportunity to savor the culinary delights of more than 50 Newark restaurants, accompanied by the wares of the finest area wine distributors.  A feature of Taste of Newark is the Battle of the Chefs, now in its fourth year. The battle features the city’s best chefs, who will have one hour to concoct delectable masterpieces from a secret list of ingredients. Taste of Newark helps support University of Delaware's Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management and the Downtown Newark Partnership.

October 24-26, 2014  World Championship Punkin Chunkin
Bridgeville, Delaware
Hardcore engineers and backyard tinkerers build their gigantic, home built contraptions with one common goal: to launch eight to 10-pound pumpkins as far as mechanically possible. The competition is divided into various categories depending on how the pumpkin is chucked: trebuchets, catapults, huge air cannons, human power, human power centrifugal class, and human power class. The World Championship Punkin Chunkin Association (WCPCA) is a nonprofit association started in 1986 that hosts the Punkin' Chunkin' World Championships, an event which raises money for scholarships and charitable organizations.

December 7, 2014  Downtown's Cookin'-A Community Unity
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
A community dinner from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Gather with your neighbors, friends and family to celebrate the holiday season and enjoy a delicious meal provided by local businesses and volunteers. There will be live entertainment, Santa, plus activities for kids of all ages.  Also at Community Unity, Main Street bestows its Citizen of the Year Award.  Come dine with us!
