September 8-10, 2023 17th Annual Cordova Fungus Festival Cordova, Alaska Throughout this three day event, Fungus Festival attendees will have opportunities to learn more about local mushrooms, participate in mushroom related arts and crafts, and celebrate mushrooms and other wild harvested foods in a Wild Food Dinner. There will be daily guided forays, an identification table and an expert key note speaker. October 9-13, 2023 - National School Lunch Week - Nationwide School Nutrition Association. November 2-5, 2023 Sitka WhaleFest - Sitka, Alaska The Annual Sitka WhaleFest is a program of the Sitka Sound Science Center. The 2023 Sitka WhaleFest’s theme is “Sound Science: Voices from the Ocean.” The event hosts a unique science symposium blending local knowledge and scientific inquiry concerning the rich marine environment of the North Pacific. The festival includes many community and cultural activities such as the science symposium lectures, interactive student sessions, marine wildlife cruises with scientist, a marine themed artisan market, music, local foods, a banquet, art and a fun run/walk.
