MASHED POTATO VARIATIONS

Country Style Mashed Potatoes
Do not peel potatoes; mash potatoes with skins on. Olive Oil Mashed Potatoes For a fruity flavor, try adding a little extra-virgin olive oil in place of some of the butter when making mashed potatoes.
 
Pesto Swirled Potatoes
Spoon freshly made mashed potatoes into a large serving bowl. Using a spoon, partially stir in prepared pesto to create a swirl design.
 
Cheddar Mashed Potatoes
Stir sour cream and shredded Cheddar cheese into hot mashed potatoes; finish with a sprinkle of sliced green onion or snipped chives.
 
Dijon-Herb Mashed Potatoes
Stir coarse-grain or regular Dijon-style mustard and chopped fresh herbs, such as thyme or basil, into mashed potatoes.
 
Balsamic Mashed Potatoes
Drizzle a little balsamic vinegar into your mashed potatoes for a little zip-a perfect match for a juicy beef steak!
 
Garlicky Mashed Potatoes
Add peeled garlic cloves to the water when boiling potatoes; mash the garlic with the potatoes before adding milk and butter.
 
More-than-Mashed Potatoes
Add small broccoli florets to cooking water during last 10 minutes of boiling potatoes; mash with potatoes
 
Horseradish-Hot Mashed Potatoes
Add zip and pizzazz to your mashed potatoes by stirring in prepared horseradish sauce.
 
Healthy Variations for Mashed Potatoes
For 4 servings (2 2/3 cups) of mashed potatoes.
 
Chipotle Mashed Potatoes
2 teaspoons finely chopped drained canned chipotle peppers
 
BBQ Mashed Potatoes
2 tablespoons prepared barbecue sauce
 
Salsa Mashed Potatoes 
1/4 cup prepared salsa
 
Sour Cream and Chive Mashed Potatoes
1/4 cup reduced-fat sour cream and 2 tablespoons chopped fresh chives
 
Uses for Prepared Mashed Potatoes
(Using frozen or refrigerated prepared mashed potatoes OR prepared mashed potatoes made from fresh or dehydrated potatoes)
 
Easy Shepherd's Pie
In a baking dish, cover prepared beef stew with prepared mashed potatoes. Bake in a moderate oven until heated through and potato crust is lightly browned. 
 
All-Purpose Thickener
To thicken a thin soup or stew, mix leftover mashed potatoes, a small amount at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
