CALORIES FACTS & TRIVIA

Carbohydrates: 4 calories per gram
Proteins: 4 calories per gram
Fats: 9 calories per gram
Alcohol: 7 calories per gram

Food energy is reported as calories.  A calorie is the
unit of measure for the amount of energy that protein, fat, and carbohydrate furnish the body.  Alcohol also contributes to the calorie content of alcoholic beverages.
The official unit of measurement for food energy is actually kilocalories (kcal), but the term “calories” is commonly used in its place.  In fact, “calories” is used on food labels.

Under San Francisco's new restaurant laws, meals that come with a free toy can contain a maximum of 600 calories.

In the 1950s, a McDonald's hamburger, fries and a Coke (12oz) had about 600 calories.

Today, the McDonald's 'Extra Value Meal' of a Quarter-Pounder, super size french fries, and a 42 oz Coke has 1550 calories.

No wonder everyone is getting fat!

A Hummer H2 could be driven around the world 244 times on the excess calories Americans consume each year.
Harper's Magazine.
