February 24, 2009 Olney Pancake Race Onney, England, UK At 11:55 am on Shrove Tuesday each year, energetic local ladies in traditional housewife attire (including skirt, apron and scarf) run 415 yards through the streets of Olney carrying a frying pan. Pancakes are tossed at the start of the race and the winner is must toss her pancake again at the finish. The race has been run since around 1445 and since 1950, the contest has been an international event between Olney and the town of Liberal, Kansas in America.

May 25, 2009 Cheese Rolling at Cooper's Hill in Gloucestershire Cooper's Hill, Gloucestershire, UK Competitors run, roll & somersault themselves down the steep (1:2 gradient), grassy slopes of Coopers Hill in pursuit of a 7- 8 lb (4kg) Double Gloucester cheese. It is unusual for runners to stay in control all the way down. The winner takes home the cheese as well as a few cuts and bruises. The event has been taking place for possibly hundreds of years. Documentary evidence shows that Cheese Rolling on Cooper's Hill was already an old tradition in the early 1800s.
