February 21, 2012  Olney Pancake Race - Olney, England
At 11:55 am on Shrove Tuesday each year, energetic local ladies in traditional housewife attire (including skirt, apron and scarf) run 415 yards through the streets of Olney  carrying a frying pan. Pancakes are tossed at the start of the race and the winner must toss her pancake again at the finish. The race has been run since around 1445 and since 1950, the contest has been an international event between Olney and the town of Liberal, Kansas in America.

Competitors run, roll & somersault themselves down the steep (1:2 gradient), grassy slopes of Cooper's Hill in pursuit of a 7- 8 lb (4kg) Double Gloucester cheese. The event has been taking place for possibly hundreds of years. Documentary evidence shows that Cheese Rolling on Cooper's Hill was already an old tradition in the early 1800s. Attendance: 15,000.

First held in 1971, the contest was the idea of local schoolmaster Mr. Tyson, as a way to raise funds for a village hall. He had caught some students shooting peas at each other. Proceeds from the international event still go towards the upkeep of the village hall.

Far Forest Countryside Show is a fantastic day out with entertainment and shows and live music throughout the day.  The Food Festival is a highlight of the show and has grown every year since it was introduced a few years ago. With live cookery demonstrations and spectacular showcase of the best and finest foods, produce and drinks from around the country.  The Horticultural show is of course still at the heart of the show and after a spectacular display last year we hope for an even bigger display in 2012.

September 2, 2012  Lobster and Crab Feast
Clovelly, North Devon, England
We pay tribute to Clovelly's famous lobsters and crabs with a day of live folk music, quay kitchens, wine and beer tasting, local food stalls, prize draw, arts and crafts stalls.  For the children there's face painting, storytelling, walkabout magic, balloon modelling, street theatre and N. Devon A.O.N.B.'s event-themed craft activities. The Red Lion Harbour restaurant will again be offering delicious seafood, crab and lobster platters, each with a complimentary glass of champagne. In aid of the National Lobster Hatchery at Padstow, who will bring along a tank of baby lobsters, to be later released into the sea.
