PORTION CONTROL TRIVIA

Over the past 1000 years artists have increased the plate size and food portions by more than 66% in paintings of 'The Last Supper'.
International Journal of Obesity (April 2010)

  • In the 1964 edition of 'The Joy of Cooking,' a recipe for chocolate chip cookies listed the yield as 45 servings.
  • In the 1997 edition the same recipe listed it as 36 servings.

Fast food portions are 2 to 5 times as large today as they were in the 1980s.

  • The average adult male weighed 168 pounds in the 1980s, in 2003 he weighed 180 pounds.
  • The average adult female increased from 142 pounds to 152 pounds during the same period.

The 'International Journal of Obesity' comprised 509 pages in 1993.  In 2006 it filled 2,322 pages.

The standard casket has grown from 22 inches wide in the 1970s to 26 inches wide today.
