According to the USDA, Americans waste almost 27% of all the food produced in the U.S. each year.

Some 12 percent of American food crops go unharvested because of the difficulty in predicting demand for various crops each year. (2006)

The average American household throws away more than 1.25 pounds of food each day. (2006)

More than 96 billion pounds of edible "surplus" food is thrown away in the U.S. Each year. It is estimated that almost 27% of our food supply is wasted.
