Smuckers and National Ice Cream Month

What’s your favorite day of the week? At Smucker’s, they prefer Sundaes! As you develop your summer food sections, we wanted to remind you that July is National Ice Cream Ice Month.  What better way to celebrate than with a classic sundae or trying a new twist on an old favorite?

In fact, according to a recent survey conducted by The J.M. Smucker Company, four out of 10 Americans are likely to include sundaes as part of their summer festivities, like the Fourth of July.  This year, Smucker’s Ice Cream Toppings are celebrating the classic ice cream sundae by finding out America’s favorite ways to enjoy this delicious treat and sharing some of the company’s favorite recipes.

What is America’s favorite sundae?  While the classic Banana Split has long been regarded as the most popular ice cream sundae, the survey revealed that 31% of Americans prefer a Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae over the Banana Split with 24%, and Strawberry Sundaes came in third with 14 percent.

In addition, the survey found that 51% of adults would feel less guilty about eating ice cream sundaes if they knew the toppings were sugar-free.  Smucker’s now offers two sugar-free options – Caramel and Hot Fudge – that are perfect for topping off any sundae.

With more than 19 different flavors of ice cream toppings, Smucker’s gives ice cream lovers a wide variety of options to choose from.  It’s no surprise that hot fudge or chocolate was the number one topping choice (53%), but flavors such as strawberry, butterscotch, caramel, along with sprinkles and nuts are still favorites.  Nuts, like walnuts, pecans or peanuts were the second choice (32%) for favorite sundae toppings and strawberry topping was tied with the old favorite, whipped cream (24%).
