CHILI POWDER
The generic chili powder found in supermarkets is a blend of several spices, but there is no set or established recipe or formula for it. Usually it is composed of about 80% ground dried chile pepper, with garlic powder, ground cumin, oregano and sometimes salt. Some blends may contain MSG. Other spices sometimes included are cloves, allspice, coriander and anise.
Specialty and ethnic markets usually carry chili powders made from specific varietis of chili.
