The world's only oyster museum is on Chincoteague Island, Virginia.

· In 2011 Virginia changed designation of the Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) from State Fish (1993) to State Freshwater Fish.

· In 2011 the Striped bass (Morone saxatilis) was adopted as the official State Saltwater Fish.

· In 1982 Milk was adopted as the official State Beverage.

· In 1974 Virginia adopted the Oyster Shell (Crassostraea virginica) as the official State Shell.
