GERBER BABY FOOD

In 1927 Michigan food processor Daniel Gerber's doctor told him to feed his sick daughter Sally strained peas. Strained baby foods were expensive and only available in pharmacies (and only in limited parts of the country). These facts inspired him to found the Gerber Baby Foods Company.

Real Baby Food:
When U.S. companies begin marketing their products in Africa, it is common practice to have a picture on the label of what is inside, since most people there can not read English. Gerber Baby Food was not aware of this, and ran into a problem, since the photo on their label is of a cute Caucasian baby.
