SELTZER, SELTZER WATER

Seltzer water originally referred to a naturally effervescent mineral water, and was named for Niederselters, a town in the Wiesbaden region of Germany famous for its mineral springs.  Today seltzer is frequently used to refer to artificially carbonated club soda or soda water.

Seltzer was the forerunner to 'soda pop', which were created in the mid 1800s when flavoring was added to seltzer water.
