FRENCH APPLE CAKE

Serves 8.

4-5 medium-sized OHIO apples, thinly sliced (Jonathan, Fugi, Melrose)
4 tablespoons butter or margarine
2/3 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon cinnamon
6 tablespoons milk

TOPPING:
6 tablespoons butter
1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla


Preheat oven to 325ºF .
Spray 9-inch round cake pan with non-stick vegetable coating.
Arrange apple slices in spiral design, working from the outside in.
Cream butter, sugar and eggs.
Add dry ingredients alternately with milk.
Pour over apples and bake for approximately 30-35 minute.

Cream topping ingredients together and pour over hot cake.
Bake an additional 15 minutes.
Let cook and invert onto plate.
Serve with whipped topping or ice cream.
