In 1985 Wyoming adopted the Bison (Bison bison) as the Official State Mammal.
In 1987 Wyoming adopted the Cutthroat trout (Salmo clarki) as the Official State Fish.
In 2007 Wyoming adopted Western Wheatgrass (Agropyron smithii) as the Official State Grass.
Wyoming is the 9th largest state with an area of 97,818 square miles, but ranks 50th in population, with 493,782 residents. The population per square mile is 5.09, which ranks 49th.
