REVIEW

When I first arrived in Key West I looked for places to eat where I would be comfortable enjoying a meal by myself. I needed consistently good food with a varied menu, servers that were friendly without being too intrusive and a convenient location near where I work and play. I found it just off Duval and Virginia Streets in a quaint venue called Duval Square at a restaurant called the New York Pizza and Pasta Deli.

Key West has very distinctive sectors on the island and I’m a south ender. I like a quieter and a bit more artsy locale where a bit more wine is consumed then beer. New York Pizza is surrounded by nice shops, several top-notch restaurants, fountains and shade trees overhead. If the weather is cooperative I prefer an outdoor table, but a limited amount of indoor air-conditioned seating available.

I tend to be a creature of habit, so I tend to order the linguini with vegetables or the seafood pasta. You get both quality and quantity so plan on taking a doggie bag back to your hotel or guesthouse. I get asked about the cost of living a fair amount of times by visitors and it is expensive to live on the island, but with all the food you get at most restaurants like New York Pizza you will end up with two meals so you can afford to eat well here.

About 2 years ago I honestly had to stop eating at this spot because the food just honestly didn’t taste good and the servers seemed unhappy. Today New York Pizza has very good management, service with a smile and a solid menu from stem to stern. Lots of parking is available in the lot just behind the restaurant as well.

Eat in or take away. It will be a meal you’ll smile about and a place you’ll want to come back to.
