Adelaide Hills Winter Reds Festival, July 2012

Winter Reds warm up the Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills Wine Region is giving people the opportunity to enjoy beautiful wines, a cosy atmosphere and warming fare at cellar doors during the annual Winter Reds Festival weekend on July 28 to 29, 2012.

Renowned for stunning wines and delightful local produce, the Adelaide Hills region comes alive during winter, giving guests the chance to take in gorgeous views and unique experiences at each cellar door. Whether it’s the release of the Shaw and Smith 2010 Shiraz, comfort food at Paracombe, the RED, RED, RED party at Yangoora Estate or the first look at Somerled’s museum shirazes, there is something on offer for everyone.

This year’s festival will also be paired with the highly anticipated  Capture the Season  competition, which invites budding photographers to submit entries of photos that beautifully capture winter in the Adelaide Hills for the chance to win some great prizes and have their works displayed at the Capture the Season SALA Exhibition at Hahndorf Academy.

Inaugural judge and AIPP South Australian Photographer of the Year 2006 and 2009, David Evans, is excited to see the calibre of entrants that will be received this year after the exceptional finalists in 2011.

“The Adelaide Hills offers breathtaking scenery during winter, which allows photographs to encapsulate depth and emotion unique to the region. Last year, several outstanding entries combined incredible artistic and technical qualities to portray a great story. I am excited to see the quality and passion uncovered the 2012 entries,” says David.

Photos can be submitted into two categories,  including  a new  group  introduced  to  allow  entry of photographs captured on a smart phone, for the chance to win one of  four awards, including the Capture the Season Award, which is selected  by  a panel of  judges including David Evans,  the  Cellar Door  Award, judged by wineries in the region, and the Media’s Choice Award decided by a panel of media judges.

Entrants will go in the running to win a share of over $3500 worth of prizes, including products from Atkins Technicolour, accommodation and restaurant vouchers in the Adelaide Hills and an exquisite range of wines from the Adelaide Hills Wine Region.

The Capture the Season photography competition commences on Friday, 11 May and is open for submissions up until Monday, 25 June.  Shortlisted finalists will be announced on July 24 and will be included in the exclusive Capture the Season SALA Exhibition at Hahndorf Academy, where they will be judged for each award category.
