U.S. Barista Competition Comes to Atlantic City

Coffee And Tea Festival Hosts Championship, November 2012

Starfish Junction Productions, long-time producer of the Coffee and Tea Festival NYC and the upcoming Coffee and Tea Festival Atlantic City, just confirmed news that the fall Festival will host the United States Barista Championship (USBC), Northeast Competition. The Championship is governed by the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA)-the world's coffee authority and the largest coffee trade association.  The Coffee and Tea Festival will be held on November 3-4, 2012 at Bally's at 1900 Pacific Ave., Atlantic City, NJ 08401. The event is open to the public and the trade.

The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) is the governing body of the United States Barista Championship-the Licensed National Body for World Coffee Events (WCE). SCAA's United States Barista Championship and Regional Competitions, through their focus on excellence, encourage and recognize professional achievement in the art and skill of espresso beverage preparation and service. At the Regional Competitions, baristas dazzle four sensory judges, two technical judges and one head judge as they prepare to serve four espressos, four cappuccinos and four signature beverages during a 15-minute race against the clock. A signature beverage is a highly innovative, freestyle espresso-based beverage created by the barista for the competition.   For more information about the specifics of the competition, visit www.USBaristaChampionship.org.

The Coffee and Tea Festival also welcomes the Association of Tea Bloggers who will be conducting their annual meeting at the Festival in Atlantic City.   Busy bloggers will be writing about the exhibitors and events of the day in addition to scouting for "Best in Show" recipients in the following categories:   Most Unique Tea, Favorite Teaware, Favorite Tea (Green), Favorite Tea (Black), and more.

The Coffee and Tea Festival NYC, now preparing for its 8th year, has been featured on the Food Network's hit show Unwrapped and was selected as one of the "10 Best New York Events" by www.10best.com in April 2009.  "We're thrilled to expand our show into the Atlantic City market. Our New York City show held earlier this year was sold out days in advance.  We're putting together such a great show for Atlantic City, we're confident that this show will get a warm reception from the attendees," said Kristyn Noren, event manager at Starfish Junction.  "We are especially delighted to host the U.S. Barista Championship's Northeast competition.  Attendees are in for a real treat," she added.

Tickets are $20 each and include sampling from the international lineup of coffee and tea exhibitors as well as attendance at a variety of classes/seminars.  There is also a variety of fee-based classes that require advance registration.  These fee-based classes include topics as varied as pairing coffee and chocolate, pairing tea and cheese, and understanding East Asian Tea & Culture.

For tickets and further info, visit the festival website: www.CoffeeAndTeaFestival.com. Goodie bags will be distributed to the first 1500 attendees each day.
