APPLESAUCE

One bushel of apples will make 20-24 quarts of applesauce.

The first American to orbit the Earth, astronaut John Glenn, carried pureed applesauce in squeezable tubes on his initial space flight. Ham with applesauce was served to Gemini astronauts.

Applesauce is made by stewing apples to a pulp. It may be sweetened and sometimes spiced with cinnamon, etc.  Different varieties of apples produce different texture sauces, from very fine and smooth to slightly coarse grained.  Occasionally chopped cooked apples are added to make a chunky sauce.
