FISHING
The oldest known painting of fishing with a rod is from Egypt and dated at about 2000 B.C. Claudius Aelian, a Roman author and teacher, mentions trout fishing with artificial flies with hooks in Macedonia.
More than 90% of all fish caught are caught in the northern hemisphere.
One hundred and fifty years before Izaak Walton wrote 'The Compleat Angler' (1653), the first written text in English with specific details on sport fishing and the use of the fishing rod, 'A Treatyse of Fysshynge wyth an Angle' (1496), was written by Dame Juliana Berners. She was the prioress of an abbey in St. Albans, England. Among other things, Dame Juliana detailed how to make hooks, lures and artificial flies.
