Salad Garnish

I'm aware that salads have health-wise essentials,

But for me it's the garnish that carries credentials.

Whichever the ingredients or in whatever amounts,

It's what's on the top that for me really counts.

It's not the lettuce or tomato or onion that I love,

But the sun dried cherries that are sprinkled above.

A bare salad on stage leaves my appetite blah.

In the theater of salad it's the dressings that star.

So time after time I am greatly impressed

At the sight of a salad that comes watercressed.

And there's little that leaves me feeling more pleased

Than when served with a salad that's been Roquefort cheesed.

Even hunger that's low becomes quickly inflated

When I look at a salad that's been parsleyated.

And my pleasure increases as you may have surmised

When the top of my salad is well croutonized.

And needless to say I am delightfully thrilled

When the salad I'm eating is being peppermilled.

I respect all the salads so highly nutritious,

But welcome the garnish that makes them delicious.
