GINGERBREAD RECIPES

Gingerbread No. 1

INGREDIENTS

    · 1/2 cup sugar
    · 3 tablespoons butter
    · 1 egg
    · 1½ cups flour
    · 1/8 teaspoon salt
    · 1 tablespoon ginger
    · 1 teaspoon cinnamon
    · 1 teaspoon [baking] soda
    · 1/2 cup milk or hot water
    · 1/2 cup molasses

DIRECTIONS

Mix butter and sugar to a soft, creamy paste;  add beaten egg. Mix spices, salt and soda with flour, and add a small portion. Add molasses and milk mixed to together, and flour alternately.  Bake thirty to forty-five minutes.
 

Gingerbread No. 2

INGREDIENTS

    · 2 eggs
    · 1/2 cup sugar
    · 1 cup molasses
    · 1 cup of sour milk or cream
    · 2 tablespoons melted butter or drippings
    · 1/2 cup currants
    · 1 teaspoon spices
    · 1 teaspoon ginger
    · 1 teaspoon of [baking] soda, a little salt
    · 2½ cups flour

DIRECTIONS

Mix and bake in a moderate oven.
