All the Best Recipes: 300 Delicious and Extraordinary Recipes

by Jane Rodmell

DESCRIPTION
In 1984 Jane Rodmell opened the doors of All the Best Fine Foods, a small specialty store in Toronto, with the goal of creating delicious handmade food and offering products not readily available at the time. As more and more customers flocked to her crusty breads, piquant salads, ambrosial baked goods, and innovative party menus, the business expanded to provide catering services, and soon Rodmell was savoring success beyond her dreams.

Now, in celebration of the store's 25th anniversary, she and her staff sifted through boxes of handwritten recipes cards from the early years, and scrolled through their capacious database to pick what to include in ALL THE BEST RECIPES. "The selection process was daunting," says Rodmell, but ultimately the choices were made based on lasting customer favorites.  The result contains 300 virtually fool-proof recipes sure to satisfy every taste.

The recipes range from simple to sophisticated, with ideas for everyday family meals, posh dinner parties, or outdoor picnics. Rodmell includes familiar comfort foods such as creamy Macaroni and Cheese, home-style Chicken Pot Pie, Rice Pudding, and Old-Fashioned Shortcakes; classics like Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding, Southern Fried Chicken, and Manhattan Clam Chowder; plus taste treats from cuisines around the world, including Thai Green Curry Chicken, Baba Ghanoush, Moroccan Carrot Salad, Marinated Flank Steak with Chimichurii Sauce, Grilled Beef Short Ribs Korean-Style, and Sicilian Meatloaf.

Scattered throughout the book are twenty interesting essays on specific foods, from Apples to Vinegar. With its wide range of recipes, helpful sidebars, tips on preparation, explanations and illustrations of kitchen techniques such as how to peel, dice, chop, truss, and carve, 'All The Best Recipes' should find a permanent niche on the kitchen shelf.
