REVIEW
There is a resort and restaurant that stands alone literally and figuratively with access only by a 20-25 minute boat ride from Little Torch Key. This is a very private and exclusive island that at one time in its history played host to the cast and crew of the movie PT 109. If you have a special someone that you want to celebrate a special occasion with in an extraordinarily romantic environment then Little Palm Island is just what you want.
I will quite honestly say that my dining experience at Little Palm was one of the finest I ever had. I was celebrating with a friend who’s birthday just happened to fall on Thanksgiving Day and in an effort to make it special we got away from the mainstream restaurants in Key West. You know you’re in for a unique event when you board the 40’s style wooden ferry as the sun sets and a kind of anticipation sets in.
Upon arrival at the island docks you are guided to the beautifully appointed restaurant and you begin to feel like you are the only ones there for all the attention you get from the host. You are asked if you wish to sit inside the main pavilion or out on the beach just steps from the waters edge surrounded by tiki lights. You easily accept the limited menu by your server because your choices will come to you with a most exquisite presentation.
While you are enjoying the fine dining experience on the deck looking out onto the Atlantic Ocean you suddenly become aware that a few key deer and their fellow critters that inhabit the small island have joined you. They are harmless and just add the extraordinary ambiance of the place. You’d like to stay there all night, but the only negative side to the meal is you must depart with the ferry on its schedule, so you will need to monitor your time as you get closer to departure hour. The servers will help you stay on course.
Any event such as this, and it is indeed an event, will cost pretty much what you might think. Our meal without alcoholic beverages cost just over $200.00 not including the tip. I would just ask yourself the question: What would you be willing to spend this kind of money on? If it’s the special someone in your life then the memory of this experience will be worth every penny.
