My Garden - July

July gardening in the Midwest is filled with routine chores such as watering and weeding, which can seem like hard work during spells of hot weather. It's easy for me to feel a bit lazy now. Doing a little every day makes it easier to appreciate the gardens.
Most flowering plants benefit from deadheading, which will keep them blooming. Irises and peonies should be divided and transplanted in late July--be sure to keep the them well watered as they start their new growth.
Lots of garden tours take place in June and July, and I try to take in a new one every year.
