Gray Tree Frogs

We are fortunate to have Gray Tree Frogs in our yard. They are able to climb the large maple tree next to our second story deck and sometimes join us when we sit outside. I’ve been surprised by them while watering my container plantings and hanging baskets, where they may have been eating insects. Their loud, trilling call can be startling, but is fun to hear. Gray tree frogs are only about two inches long. They actually have the ability to change color, from light gray to brown to green, depending on their surroundings. A special mucus on their toe pads allows them to cling to even smooth surfaces. Northern Leopard Frogs also made their home in our garden this summer, perhaps because of the above average rainfall.
