SOUPS

GRANDMOTHER STRAYER’S TOMATO SOUP

Take 1 quart of tomatoes, canned will do, 1 quart of hot water, 1 quart of rich new milk, butter the size of a walnut, salt, pepper, and a pound of oyster crackers. Put tomatoes and water in a kettle together; heat milk in a separate vessel; when all are very hot add the milk, stirring rapidly; add pepper, butter and crackers, and last of all season just right with salt.
