Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Chuck Hayes, Newborn, Georgia - garliclover101@gmail.com

After knowing my wife Andrea since she was 15 and having either dated or been married for 20 years I think I know her VERY well.  That is where I would be wrong.

We were in the drive through line at McDonalds the other day, and she mentioned that she felt like ordering a Big Mac.  No great revelation there since about a gazillion of the things are sold daily.  But it was against her “norm” (she’s a double cheeseburger gal ya see).  Anyways, and this is where it gets freaky, she nonchalantly mentions that she has NEVER had a Big Mac.  WHAT!!!!!  How can a 38 year old adult NEVER have had a Big Mac?  I started gasping, laughing crazily, and wild eyed stared at this stranger sitting next to me in the car.  She might have well said that she had never used the blue green crayon from the big box of crayolas, or never had a Coke, or had never seen a moon lit night.  NEVER NO HOW IN A MILLION YEARS could someone have not had a Big Mac by adulthood, or in this case well into adulthood before.  The Big Mac is an icon of American gastronomy dating back to 1968 for a very good reason----It’s pretty darn good!  Andrea goes on to say that she “might” have had a bite of her mother’s when she was younger, but the shock had already set in by then for me.

The below recipe is for the ubiquitous “special sauce” that must accompany these burgers.  This one is for you my sweet horizon broadening princess.  Enjoy.

BIG MAC SPECIAL SAUCE

• 8 tsp sweet pickle relish
